A Smarter Path to Coverage—Even Without Group Eligibility

Strategic individual coverage options that balance access, cost, and continuity of care

For KCMPA members who don’t qualify for the Independent Health Alliance due to group size, there is still a meaningful path forward. Through our trusted benefits advisor, individual coverage options can be explored and tailored to your unique needs.

This approach offers a more personalized way to secure coverage—helping ensure continuity of care by identifying plans that include your current physicians whenever possible, while balancing cost and coverage priorities.

A person can usually sign up for a Marketplace health plan during Open Enrollment, which is the main yearly sign-up window. For the Federally facilitated Marketplace, that period typically runs from November 1 to January 15. If they enroll by December 15, coverage usually starts January 1. If they enroll between December 16 and January 15, coverage usually starts February 1.

Outside of Open Enrollment, they can only sign up if they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. That usually happens after certain life events, such as getting married, having a baby, or losing other active health coverage.  Typically, coverage needs to be elected within 60 days of the qualifying event.
