A champion of the private practice since 2012

The delivery of healthcare is always evolving. During the past decade, the shift away from the private physician practice to large hospital-owned practices has accelerated. Today, more than 49% of physicians are employed by hospitals, according to a study by the American Medical Association. And fewer than 15% of physicians remain in solo practice.

Why does this matter? Because the independent physician plays a crucial role in local communities. Doctors in private practice have the freedom to establish strong relationships with patients. They can offer patients a more personal experience, along with tailored treatments, instead of being required follow strict protocols that have been created by administrators.

Dr. Nathan Granger, founder of Clay-Platte Family Medicine, a private practice, observed this trend and decided to take action. In 2012, he established Kansas City Metropolitan Physician Association (KCMPA) to help meet the challenges and opportunities of these changing healthcare dynamics. The mission of KCMPA is to extend the concept of the patient-centered medical home by building a patient-centered medical neighborhood that values the independence of providers while providing health services in a seamless, coordinated manner.

As an independent physician association, KCMPA draws its members from a wide range of healthcare providers, from primary care to a wide variety of specialty care providers and even extending to allied health professionals, including counseling, imaging, physical therapy, occupational therapy and more. Recently the KCMPA board agreed to include independent dental and orthodontia practices, as well, recognizing the strong ties between oral health and overall health.

KCMPA is led by a physician board of directors and executive team who believe in collaboration. Our physician members deliver high quality, evidence-based medical care at a reasonable cost while working to enhance the patient experience. Our membership includes primary care for both adult medicine and pediatrics, as well as specialists, PT, behavioral health, and chiropractic services.

nathan grangerDr. Nathan Granger has resigned his position of President/CMO in KCMPA. He has faithfully served in this role since KCMPA's inception in 2012 and was instrumental in bringing KCMPA to life. Since that time, KCMPA has seen growth and expansion into new areas that, without his leadership and innovative thinking, wouldn't have happened. His commitment to serve in this role and to divide his time between KCMPA and his practice shows his dedication to improving healthcare in Kansas City. We thank him for his dedication and many years of service to KCMPA.
